This photo project was inspired by my thesis research on racial identity formation for white-Asian women. I’m completing my Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Social Justice and Human Rights at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. I plan to complete my degree in May 2019.

I think often, biracial women are asked the question “What are you?” in attempts to label and classify them into a racial category. Instead, I wanted the women to be able to answer “Who are you?”

My goal is to gather 100 photos of women of different ages and ethnicties in the next year of my graduate program. These photos will supplement the research I present in my thesis.

All participants gave written consent for their image and response to be used.
